Citi Cards Japan, operator of Citigroup's credit card business in Japan, is set to release a new credit card for wealthy individuals called "Ginza Diners Club Card." The card targets wealthy customers who frequently enjoy shopping around Tokyo's Ginza area, one of the most luxurious shopping districts in Japan. Citi Cards Japan will accept membership applications from October 1.

The Japanese tourism industry has suffered serious damage due the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Plant. The nuclear crisis spread fear among travelers worldwide and many foreign governments urged their citizens to avoid traveling to Japan following the disasters. Consequently, the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan has decreased by over 70% in the three weeks following the earthquake. The Japanese government is now reviewing its strategy to attract tourists back to Japan.

Well-known French luxury brand Louis Vuitton and American premium retailer Barney's New York both opened new shops in Kobe's Iryuchi district earlier this month. The new stores are located in a premium shopping complex recently completed by Mitsui Fudosan, a major Japanese property developer.

Japanese cosmetics firm Pola has announced it will begin selling luxury skin care products, including the firm's premium B.A. moisturizing cream, in the Ukraine from April this year. The move is part of Pola's increased effort to attract premium customers to the brand in rapidly developing markets globally.
