On January 28th the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) introduced plans for a new marketing strategy to increase foreign tourism to Japan by 2010. The number of foreign tourists visiting Japan has recently started to slow due to poor economic conditions and the rising value of the yen. In response to these factors, JTA is refocusing marketing efforts onto less effected traveler types, including single females.

Major Japanese full-service travel agency, Kinki Nippon Tourist Company Ltd (KNT), has announced to it will begin offering packages for overseas luxury hotels and resorts to customers via its website. Unlike traditional packages which bundle both airfare and accommodation, the new packages will include accommodation at luxury hotels and resorts only - not airline tickets.

Those who are making the most use of the service are company owners and retired founders of major companies who appreciate the service as a status symbol. They have also found that it is cheaper and more convenient to hire a chauffer to drive them in their own personal car rather than hire a car and driver together.
