Westin Hotel Sendai Set to Open in August 2010

On October 16th it was formally announced that Mori Trust would be sponsoring development of Sendai Trust City, a new large-scale, multipurpose property development, in Sendai, Japan. Sendai is the largest city in Japan's Tohoku region, and serves as the region's commercial capital. A tower, containing office space and a luxury hotel, is to anchor the new development.

Mori Trust also confirmed they have concluded an agreement with Starwood Hotels and Resorts of America, to open a Westin Hotel on the site. Completion of the new Westin Sendai is currently planned for October 2010, with other locations for in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region tentatively planned for later.

The Westin Sendai, is planned to have approximately 300 guest rooms sized around 40 square meters each. Prices are to run 300-400 USD per night for a standard room, and hotel officials hope to keep average occupancy around 75%.

A wedding chapel capable of serving an estimated 300 weddings per year is also planned for the property.

Initial plans are for approximately 200 staff to operate the hotel.
