New Restrictions on Chinese Imports

According to the Japanese Ministry of Finance, counterfeit luxury brand imports restricted at customs rose 16.6% in 2008. The number of cases involving counterfeit branded goods confiscated by Japanese customs officials totaled 26,415. 80% of these cases involved goods manufactured in China.

Most of the cases involved premium purses, wallets, and other counterfeit accessories from renowned luxury brands. In addition, 1% of the counterfeit goods were tools used in the medical industry. Private imports of other miscellaneous counterfeit goods is also said to be on the rise.
