Mauboussin Free Diamonds in Japan

On June 1 French luxury jewelry brand Mauboussin gave away 5,000 cut diamonds at its flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza district. The promotional effort was desinged to increase brand awareness among Japanese consumers and drive visitors to the flagship store.

The free diamonds are 0.1 carats and valued at approximatly 5,000 JPY (50 USD) each. Mauboussin, encourages those who receive the promotional diamonds to have them set into jewlery in their shop, although this it is not required. Basic ring settings for the free diamonds start at 50,000 JPY (500 USD) while pendant settings start at 70,000 JPY (700 USD).

Mauboussin operates 6 department store based shops in Japan, and opened its flagship Ginza shop in February of this year. The 181 year old brand, known for the quality of its diamonds, hopes the promotional activity will help establish it in the Japanese market as it continues expansion efforts.
